What Are Optional Redemptions?

An optional redemption feature allows a school or community college district to repay general obligation bonds prior to the bonds’ maturity date.  Prior to a bond sale, a district and its financing team determine the optional redemption date and price.  Optional redemptions provide districts with the flexibility to refinance their bonds to save their taxpayers money.
